Sweets at the summit !

The golden age of balneology began in the 19th century, when visitors would rush to spend time in the thermal waters. But in Cauterets, the water left an unpleasant aftertaste of sulphur which is why the doctors recommended to have a sugary sweet. Thus the berlingot, a sweet which dates back to the 16th century, became the idol of the first village to have a thermal spa of the 19th and 20th centuries. No fewer than ten berlingot factories open in the small town. Today, the streets of Cauterets bathe in the smooth sweet smell of the berlingots freshly made by the hands of the artisans.
