A few words of advice
- Being in good physical condition is important if planning a holiday in the mountains.
- Leave early, walk at your own pace giving yourself the time to look and enjoy the outing.
- Use good walking shoes, it is important for your comfort and security.
- Always make sure you always take spare clothes in your rucksac as the weather can change quickly in the mountains, ie fleece, waterproof.
- Enjoying the sunshine is great, but sunglasses and a hat are essential.
- Remember to take a first aid kit and a survival blanket.
- It is easy to become dehydrated, the rule of thumb being to drink before you are thirsty and eat before you are hungry. Take a gourd and avoid drinking from the streams, as they are very cold.
- Never walk alone and always tell someone where you are going and which route you are taking.
- Prepare your walk before you depart, using maps and guide books. Don't be afraid to turn back.
- In case of an accident, do not panic. Call the help services,ask other walkers to get help, or ask at the refuge etc. Never leave an injured person alone.
- Please respect the mountains, the plants and the wildlife as well as thelocal heritage. Take your rubbish home with you.
- Please respect the people working in the mountains, always close gates behind you, don't go in the fields when the hay is mature. Keeps dogs on a lead. Dogs are not permitted in the National Park.
