The walk to the pastoral hut of Counques

Luz Ardiden resort offers a panoramic snowshoe circuit. Follow the markings to discover the most beautiful views of the valley and crisscross between peaks, remains, pines with hooks and snow-capped peaks.

Snowshoeing itinerary

From the Aulian sector or the Béderet sector, embark with your snowshoes and poles on the chairlift. On arrival, enjoy a breathtaking panorama from two belvederes located at the junction of the two slopes. Then a marked and secure circuit all downhill takes you through the fir trees, the Col de Riou then the Cabane de Counques. After the effort, comfort on the terrace of the Béderet snack-bar for a well-deserved gourmet break.

> Package: €15/person for the chairlift ride (during out of scool holidays, remember to get your pass at the village or Aulian ticket offices)
> Possibility to return by Bederet shuttle > Aulian

WALKING WITH MY DOGGY

As a general rule, our four-legged friends are not allowed even on a leash in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park area as well as on the ski slopes of the various resorts.

Here are some ideas for walking in winter with your faithful companion:

> The pedestrian-snowshoe trail of the Counques hut: Located in the Bederet sector in Luz Ardiden, this marked, secure and groomed route takes you to a pretty plateau where there is a pastoral hut inhabited in summer then returns through a forest, with permanently the sight on the valley of Luz.

> The Bernazaou track: Located on the climb to the Luz Ardiden station, park at the entrance to the path then walk through the woods, the fairground barns and with a lovely view of the Luz valley.

> Around the perched villages: Several paths connect the villages of Pays Toy, such as the circuit of the 3 villages between Sazos, Grust and Viscos or the circuit of the 5 churches between Esquièze-Sère, Vizos and Saligos. To view the map, click here.

> The main path of the Cirque de Gavarnie: Although located in the heart of the National Park, it is still possible to admire this famous limestone wall and its large icefall with its doggie, kept on a leash, and this only on the main road linking the village of Gavarnie to the Hôtellerie du Cirque. In winter, plan to have good shoes because of the ice present on the ground (sticks and walking shoes and snowshoes during snowfall).

The Luz Ardiden resort offers marked and secure circuits from the Bederet sector (parking) to the Col de Riou and the Viscos crests. Admire the surrounding peaks, savor the calm of this preserved landscape and arrive at Col de Riou with a 360 ° panorama over the valleys of Luz and Cauterets.
