LOURDES

Words cannot describe the Marian city, it must be experienced: through chance meetings, unexpected encounters, ambiances, human devotion which sills over in places of worship. But what a wonderful experience to just admire Lourdes, its Sanctuary, its lake, the Pyrenees up high.

The Sanctuary of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes is open all year round.

It is witness to the rhythm of different celebrations and pilgrimages.

Cosmopolitan and benevolent, Lourdes is located at the gateway to the Gaves Valley. Known as a cradle of spirituality and fraternity, it receives 6 million travellers each year from all continents – who all gather here to contemplate the Massabielle cave, where the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858; changing the destiny of the city forever. Lourdes has a rich natural and cultural heritage: the castle, the lake, the Pic du Jer, the sanctuaries … It is also the starting point for many walks.

THE CAVE OF APPARITIONS

The Massabielle Cave is bordered to the north and east by the Gave de Pau River and dominated on the south by the Massabielle rock.

The water from the spring is channelled and supplies fountains, swimming pools...
